Wide strip foundations are long concrete strips. They’re used when the load is considerably more than the bearing capacity of the subsoil and allows the load to be spread over a wider area.

To reduce the thickness of concrete required, they are commonly reinforced with steel rods, placed on the underside of the foundation. The bearing capacity of the soil is a major factor in determining the width required.

Benefits

  • Simple to construct

  • Cost effective

Limitations
